Our goal has always
been to create a viable and sustainable organization that will continue long
into the future building homes for those who would otherwise not be able to afford
a home of their own. With the completion
of the 2009 build in Stayner of a semi-detached home we are progressing well
along our home building path.
The build season
started in April of 2009 with the construction of a 2000 square foot pole barn
at our ReStore location at 155 Sanford Fleming Drive in Collingwood. This project added much needed storage space and
also allowed us to increase the quality and variety of products in the ReStore which
resulted in a substantial increase in sales.
Although the two
families moved into their semi-detached homes in Stayner before Christmas, it
wasn't until the end of January 2010 that the last piece of trim was installed
which completed the project. It was a
very long build season and we greatly appreciate the work of the Build Committee
and all of the Volunteers who helped to complete this Herculean task. Also, we wish to thank the ten other Committees,
who worked behind the scenes on the project.
We do not expect to
start our next build until late 2010 or into 2011.First we need to find a building lot and my
plea is that you talk to anyone who might help us find a property and get them
to contact me or any member of our Habitat Board.
All of us in Habitat for
Humanity South Georgian Bay should feel a sense of accomplishment and pride
with what we have achieved.
We made many new friends
in Stayner this past year and increased the number of Volunteers from Clearview Township. We intend to consolidate those new friendships
as we move towards the next build.
With each new build our
organization becomes more sustainable and viable as we increase our credibility
in claiming to represent not just one local community but the whole of South
Georgian Bay.
